Thanksgiving Basket Drive for the Light House Shelter, November 16, 2012 : On Nov. 16, AAMC held its annual Thanksgiving basket food drive for the Annapolis Light House Shelter. Employees provided more than 90 beautifully decorated baskets filled with Thanksgiving feasts, not to mention a mountain of surplus food that was also collected. “The response and support for our community has been overwhelming. This is the true meaning of giving,” said DeShirle Rowel, RN, who organized this year’s collection. Maryland House speaker Michael Busch stopped by to help deliver the food to the Light House Shelter.

Pathways 20th Anniversary Celebration : On September 20, staff and community members gathered in the Doordan Institute to celebrate Pathways Alcohol and Substance Abuse Center’s 20th anniversary. Several special guests were in attendance, including Fran Phillips, deputy secretary of the Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, and Mary Sutton Heald, wife of late Founding Director of Pathways Charles Sutton, M.D. Libby Cataldi, author of the book Stay Close: A Mother’s Story of Her Son’s Addiction and her son Jeff Bratton shared their struggles with Jeff’s addiction and his road to recovery and answered questions from the audience.

United Way 2011 Campaign Kick-Off : Our 2011 United Way Campaign officially kicked off on Oct. 19 at our monthly Leadership Council. Our fearless senior leaders participated in "AAHS' Got Talent" and performed skits for the audience. Performances included a United Way rap, Breathless band led by Dr. Mosier and an Irish jig. The event raised $900 for the United Way.

Girl Scout Troop 936 Makes Ribbons for Cancer Survivors : Girl Scout Troop 936 is active in raising awareness for cancer. While planning a cancer walk and awareness event, the girls visited with nurses at AAMC to learn more about cancer and ways they can help the cause. On Wednesday, June 1, the troop spent the afternoon at AAMC making ribbons for survivors attending the hospital's National Cancer Survivors Day which takes place on Sunday, June 5.
